What Happened
Police Officer David Guider and Police Officer Wendell Troyer were killed when their department's Hughes 269C helicopter experienced mechanical failure with the main rotor and crashed. The helicopter crashed into a parking lot and building at 2033 Fruitvale Avenue and burst into flames. Officer Guider was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and had served with the Oakland Police Department for four years. He was survived by his expectant wife. His father was a retired police chief.
