General David Charls Jones served the United States Air Force for 40 years. David also served in the U.S. Air Force. David served in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Cold War. David was married to Lois Jones. David was 92 years old.
What Happened
He enlisted in 1942 and flew B-29s over Korea. Commanded Strategic Air Command and the air forces in Europe, was Chief of Staff of the Air Force, and became the ninth Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 1978. He argued publicly that the chairman needed real authority, and the reforms he pressed for became the Goldwater-Nichols Act of 1986.
