What Happened
Patrolman Daniel McShane was shot and killed shortly after midnight when he responded to the scene of a dispute between a tenant and a landlord at 17 Wheeler Street. He was attempting to crawl through a window when he was shot in the stomach and killed. The suspect was apprehended after several hours in which he and officers exchanged almost 100 shots. The suspect, age 60, was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 12 to 15 years. Patrolman McShane was a U.S. Army veteran of WWI veteran and had served with the Boston Police Department for two years.
