What Happened
Lieutenant Daniel McCann was shot to death by an unruly woman he had ejected from a bar on 11th and Spruce Street in Center City. The woman, who had been creating a disturbance in the bar, pulled a revolver from her handbag and fired. The 31-year-old suspect was convicted of voluntary manslaughter on September 17, 1965, and sentenced to an indeterminate term in the State Industrial Institution for Women at Muncy. She was paroled on January 7, 1970. Lieutenant McCann was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and had served with the Philadelphia Police Department for 14 years.
Survivors
He was survived by his wife and three children.
