What Happened
Police Officer Charles Hilbert succumbed to injuries he received when he was struck by a car at the intersection of Potee Street and Patapsco Avenue. The 56-year-old driver lost control of his car, jumped the curb, and pinned Officer Hilbert against a traffic light pole. He was charged with reckless driving. Officer Hilbert was transported to South Baltimore General Hospital, where he passed away five days later. Officer Hilbert was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and had served with the Baltimore Police Department for three months. He was survived by his wife. He was buried at Saint Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.
