What Happened
Deputy Sheriff Casto Robertson was shot and killed as he and other deputies attempted to serve a warrant at a home in Lincoln. The subject was wanted for the theft of several guns. He had been placed in custody and in the patrol car when his wife came out of the home and distracted the deputies. The man used the distraction as an opportunity to draw a .22 caliber handgun he had concealed on his person. He shot and critically wounded the other deputy and fatally shot Deputy Robertson. He then fled in his vehicle but was arrested after a high-speed pursuit. The man was convicted of Deputy Robertson's murder and died in prison serving a life sentence. Deputy Robertson was a military veteran and had served with the Washington County Sheriff's Office for four years.
