What Happened

בן שרה ושמואל. נולד בט"ו בניסן תרפ"ג (1.4.1923) בווינה בירת אוסטריה. היה תלמיד מצטיין ובגיל שש עשרה הצטרף לתנועת "המכבי הצעיר". בתנועה בלט בפעילותו כמדריך ומחנך, היה בהיר-מחשבה, עצמאי בדעותיו, נבון ובעל אחריות. הוא עבר הכשרה חלוצית באהרנדורף, שליד ברלין ומשם עלה לארץ-ישראל בשנת 1939 במסגרת עליית הנוער. חברת הנוער שהשתייך אליה למדה ועבדה בקבוצת מסדה שבעמק הירדן. כעבור שנתיים ימים, לאחר שנתקבל כחבר לקבוצה, התגייס לצבא הבריטי הלוחם בנאצים והוצב לפלוגת ההובלה העברית 462. בכ"ז בניסן תש"ג (1.5.1943) היה על סיפון האנייה "ארינפורה" בשיירת אניות הצי שעשו דרכן מאלכסנדריה של מצרים למאלטה כדי להשתתף פלישת בעלות הברית לאירופה. בהפצצת מטוסים גרמניים טבעה האנייה ומאה וארבעים מחיילי הפלוגה טבעו עמה, מיכאל ביניהם. בבית הקברות הצבאי שעל הר הרצל בירושלים, הוקמה לזכר הנעדרים אנדרטה דמויית אנייה ולידה בריכת מים שבקרקעיתה חקוקים שמות הנופלים. עוד על שירותו בצבא הבריטי: מיכאל שלזינגר (Schlesinger Michael), מספר אישי בריטי PAL/32377, התגייס לצבא הבריטי בשנת 1942. הוצב בחיל השירותים המלכותי הבריטי (R.A.S.C. - Royal Army Service Corps) ביחידה 68 R&T Coy. מקצועו הצבאי - נהג. בהמשך הועבר ליחידה 462 Gen. Tpt. דרגתו בצבא הבריטי טוראי (Pte. - Private). מקום קבורתו לא נודע. הונצח ב- BROOKWOOD 1939-1945 MEMORIAL, בריטניה, בציון Panel 17. Column 1.
