Turai Yehiel Fadida served in the Israel Defense Forces. Yehiel served with the Golani Brigade. Yehiel served in the War of Independence. Yehiel was 20 years old.

What Happened

בן שושנה (רגינה) ואהליאב (לואב), נולד ביום כ"א בתשרי תרפ"ח (7.10.1927) בשכונת אחווה בטבריה. לאחר שסיים שש כיתות בבית-הספר "אליאנס" בטבריה, יצא להכשרה לאיילת השחר בגליל העליון ושהה בה שנתיים. יחיאל נאלץ לחזור לטבריה כדי לעזור לאביו החולה, ולשם כך יצא לעבוד כפועל. יחיאל הצטרף ל"הגנה" בהיותו בן 16, ופעל בשורותיה. עם פרוץ מלחמת-העצמאות נפרד מאביו וכחבר "הגנה" ותיק התייצב בין הראשונים והוצב בחטיבת "גולני". בליל 22-23 באפריל 1948 יצא כוח פלוגתי מחטיבת "גולני" לכבוש את העיירה צמח. אחת המחלקות, פרצה לעיירה והשתלטה על חלק ממנה. בשלב זה התערבו בקרב כוחות בריטיים שהיו במשטרה ובמחנה הצבא שליד העיירה, הקשר בין המחלקות נותק והמחלקה נותרה מבודדת בעיירה. לקראת שחר נסוגה המחלקה תוך קרב עם כוחות ערביים שניסו לכתרה. בקרב זה נפל, בערב חג הפסח, י"ג בניסן תש"ח (22.4.1948). הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בטבריה.
