What Happened

בן צביה ושמואל, נולד בחודש אב תרפ"ז (1927) בעיר היראת, אפגניסטן. כבן שלוש בא לארץ עם הוריו. אביו, בעל-המלאכה, לא יכול לפרנס את משפחתו ועל-כן היה על ציון לעזוב את בית-הספר בגיל רך ולהתחיל לעבוד בסנדלרות. בשעה שחבריו בילו את ילדותם בלימודים ושעשועים, ישב ציון בחדר אפל, כפוף על כלי עבודתו מבוקר עד ערב ותיקן נעלים. תנועת "הנוער העובד" שאליה הצטרף, היתה לו לעזר רב. בעזרתה למד בצלאל בבית-ספר ערב, רכש לו ידיעות אלמנטריות וגם למד את מלאכת המוזאיקה ועבד בה בבית-המלאכה של אביו. בגיל רך הצטרף לשורות ה"הגנה". באחד הערבים לחש למורהו בסוד: "מחר לא אבוא עוד ללמוד - התגייסתי לצבא העברי". לאחר שעבר סדרת אימונים בבית-הכרם ובסדום נשלח אל גוש עציון, ובקרבות הראשונים בסביבות כפר עציון, ביום כ"ה בניסן תש"ח (5.5.1948), נפל והוא בן 21. עשרה ימים לאחר נופלו, נפל גם אביו בהפגזה בירושלים. ביום כ"ה בחשוון תש"י (17.11.1949) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר- הרצל בירושלים.
