Turai Aharon Ashkenazi served in the Israel Defense Forces. Aharon served with the Infantry. Aharon served in the War of Independence. Aharon was 18 years old.

What Happened

בנם-יחידם של מזל ודויד קפיטנו, נולד ביום כ"ב בכסלו תר"ץ (24.12.1929) בעיר מרמרה שבתורכיה ועלה לארץ בשנת 1933. אהרן למד בבית-הספר לדוגמה בתל-אביב ואחרי-כן עבד בבית- החרושת "מגן". היה חניך "הנוער העובד" וחבר ב"הגנה". אהרן השתתף בעלייה על הקרקע בביריה. בתחילת מלחמת-העצמאות נחלץ בין הראשונים להגנת סביבות תל-אביב, ולחם בסלמה, ג'בליה ותל-א-ריש וגם השתתף בכיבוש טבריה. עבר קורס מתקדם בשרונה. היה חביב על חבריו, לא התאונן על קשיים ותמיד נכון היה לכל תפקיד שהוטל עליו. עם גמר האימונים נחפז לפעולות (נוהג היה לומר: "מתים רק פעם אחת") ובהתקבל הידיעה שעל כיתתו להחליף את אנשי הפלמ"ח בבית הקרן-הקיימת-לישראל שליד בית-דגון - חש לשם בשמחה ופעל זמן ממושך בהגנת עמדה קדמית זו בדרך לירושלים ולדרום. ביום י"ד בניסן תש"ח (22.4.1948), נפל בעת שיצא עם ה"ברן" בידו ללוות משוריין שנסע להביא מים. ליד בית-דגון הבחין בחוט שהיה מונח על הכביש ומחובר למוקש וירד לסלקו. באותו רגע נורה על-ידי האויב ונהרג במקום. הוא הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בנחלת יצחק.
