Rav Turai Haim Cohen served in the Israel Defense Forces. Haim served with the Infantry. Haim served in the War of Independence. Haim was 22 years old.

What Happened

בן שרה ומשיח-משה, נולד ביום ז' בתשרי תרפ"ו (25.9.1925) בירושלים. סיים שם בית-ספר יסודי והמשיך להשתלם בשיעורי ערב. הוא עבד כפקיד במשרדים שונים והיה גם מדריך במגרשי המשחקים על שם גוגנהיימר בירושלים. היה חבר ה"הגנה" מנעוריו, מסור ונאמן לתפקידים שהוטלו עליו. במלחמת-העולם השנייה התגייס לצבא הבריטי. מיד עם החלטת עצרת האו"ם על חלוקת הארץ ב-29.11.1947, היה בין הראשונים אשר התייצבו לשמירה על עיר-הולדתו ירושלים. בעת מבצע "נחשון" לפריצת הדרך לירושלים נמנה עם מגיני הקסטל, וגם אחרי היפצעו סירב לעזוב את המערכה והמשיך ללחום מלחמת-גבורה יחד עם שאר חבריו. הקסטל עמד בהתקפות ערביות רצופות, ובאחת מהן אף נהרג מנהיגם, עבד אל-קאדר אל-חוסייני. לאחר שנהרג ערכו הערבים התקפה כבדה על המשלט ומגיניו נאלצו לסגת. בקרב זה נפל, ביום כ"ח באדר ב' תש"ח (8.4.1948). ביום י"ב בכסלו תשי"ד (19.11.1953) הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר- הרצל בירושלים.
