Turai David-Haim Asherov served in the Israel Defense Forces. David-Haim served with the Golani Brigade. David-Haim served in the War of Independence. David-Haim was 19 years old.

What Happened

בן מלכה ואפרים, נולד ביום כ' בחשוון תרפ"ט (3.11.1928), בשכונת מוגרבי בתל-אביב ולמד בבית-הספר המעורב בנווה-צדק. בעודו צעיר לימים נתייתם מאביו ונאלץ לצאת לעבודה כדי לפרנס את אמו החולה ואת שני אחיו הקטנים. שש שנים עבד בבית- חרושת לארנקים וכשנתיים בדואר. היה חבר "הפועל" ושחקן כדורגל. היה מסור מאוד למשפחתו התלויה בו וחביב על חבריו ועל תושבי השכונה. הוא השתתף בהגנה על השכונה מפני התקפות הערבים מכפר סלמה. ביום 9.3.1948 התגייס לשירות העם ושירת בחטיבת "גולני". בליל 22-23 באפריל 1948 יצא כוח פלוגתי מחטיבת "גולני" לכבוש את העיירה צמח. אחת המחלקות, זו של דוד-חיים, פרצה לעיירה והשתלטה על חלק ממנה. בשלב זה התערבו בקרב כוחות בריטיים שהיו במשטרה ובמחנה הצבא שליד העיירה, הקשר בין המחלקות נותק והמחלקה נותרה מבודדת בעיירה. לקראת שחר נסוגה המחלקה תוך קרב עם כוחות ערביים שניסו לכתרה. בקרב זה נפל, ביום י"ד בניסן תש"ח (23.4.1948), ונקבר בדגניה א'. ביום י"ד בכסלו תשי"א (23.11.1950) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר- הרצל בירושלים.
