What Happened

בן שרה ויעקב, נולד ביום כ' בתמוז תר"ף (6.7.1930) בפתח תקווה. דור שלישי בארץ. אחרי סיימו בית-ספר עממי למד מכונאות והחל לעבוד במקצועו. הנער נשא בחובו את מורשת הדורות: בעודו תלמיד בבית-הספר התרגש מאוד וכאב את כאב אחיו הלוחמים בגיטו ווארשה למרות שלא הכירם, ומלחמתם הטרגית-עילאית הלהיבה את נפשו. מתוך הכרת חובה זו נשא את כל התלאות בשירותו בפלמ"ח, בסדום ובמקומות אחרים בארץ. אחר-כך בהיותו בן 18 במלחמת-העצמאות, השתתף בקרב על כיבוש קטמון בירושלים, נפצע בידו ונרפא. השתתף בקרב על הקסטל וביתר הפעולות בהגנה על הדרך לירושלים. יום לפני ההפוגה הראשונה, בשובו מפעולה במעלה החמישה לבסיסו בקרית ענבים, נפצע קשה ברסיס פגז והובא לבית-החולים בירושלים. הוא ידע כי קצו קרוב וביקש למסור למשפחתו, כי למען המולדת הלך ועל מזבח המולדת נפל. למחרת, ביום ה' בסיוון תש"ח (12.6.1948), יצאה נשמתו. נקבר בסנהדריה. ביום י"ט באלול תשי"א (20.9.1951) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר- הרצל בירושלים.
