Rav Turai Menahem Rehev Reiter served in the Israel Defense Forces. Menahem served with the Infantry. Menahem served in the War of Independence. Menahem was 22 years old.

What Happened

בן שפרה ולוי-יצחק, נולד ביום ט"ז בחשוון תרפ"ו (3.11.1925) בווינה, בירת אוסטריה והגיע לארץ עם הוריו בשנת 1935. מנחם גדל בחיפה, מיהר לרכוש לעצמו את השפה ולהסתגל לסביבתו החדשה ועד מהרה דרש בתוקף מאת הוריו שישנו את שמם הלועזי (רייטר) לשם עברי. לאחר שסיים בית-ספר תיכון עבד כמחסנאי ב"פורד". משנת 1940 היה חבר ב"הגנה" ומילא כל פקודה וכל תפקיד שהוטלו עליו. עם קריאת-הגיוס הראשונה לאחר פרוץ מלחמת-העצמאות התגייס, שירת בחטיבת "כרמלי" וסיים קורס מ"כים. מנחם יצא עם כיתתו לפעולות-חבלה. השתתף בכיבוש עין ע'זאל. שתים- עשרה שעות לפני ההתקפה המרוכזת לכיבוש חיפה נשלח עם חבריו לכבוש את בית ה"נג'אדה" בוואדי-רושמיה בחיפה ושם נפל ביום י"ג בניסן תש"ח (22.4.1948), יחד עם ידיד-נעוריו מנחם פרוסטמן, אשר ממנו לא נפרד מילדותו. הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בחיפה. הניח אישה, מלכה.
