What Happened

בן חנה ומשה, נולד בשנת 1930 בירושלים וסיים בה בית-ספר יסודי. הוא למד מכונאות והיה חבר בתנועת "הנוער העובד". יחד עם חבריו בסניף בחר בדרך ההגשמה ויצא איתם להכשרת-ביניים בשפיים. קשיים מרובים עברו על החברים ורבים מהם פרשו מההכשרה. עזריאל היה מן המעטים שעמדו במבחן ואמרו להצטרף להכשרה מגויסת. היה נער פשוט הליכות ומסור בעבודה, בחברה ובצבא. לאחר שגויס לצבא, שירת בחטיבת "יפתח" ולחם בגליל העליון, ואחר-כך בגיזרת לטרון ובאזור גזר. גזר שכנה בסמוך לכביש רמלה-לטרון, וכוחות הלגיון באזור ראו בה איום וביקשו לכובשה לקראת ההפוגה המתקרבת. ביום כ"ח באייר תש"ח (6.6.1948) לקראת הצהריים התארגן כוח האויב, שמנה פלוגת לגיון, כוחות בלתי סדירים ושריוניות ותקף את הקיבוץ. אש האויב הכבדה הרסה את עמדות המגן ושיתקה כל אפשרות של התנגדות מאורגנת. האויב הצליח לפרוץ למשק ולכבוש אותו. בקרב זה נפל עזריאל. הוא נקבר בנען. ביום כ"א באייר תש"י (18.5.1950) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר- הרצל בירושלים.
