Turai Shalom-Zigmond Alberg served in the Israel Defense Forces. Shalom-Zigmond served with the Infantry. Shalom-Zigmond served in the War of Independence. Shalom-Zigmond was 19 years old.

What Happened

בן מינה ומשה-יעקב, נולד ביום י"ח באדר א' תרפ"ט (28.2.1929) בעיר צ'רנוביץ, בירת בוקובינה, רומניה. למד בבית-ספר תיכון, אך לא השלים את חוק לימודיו. טעם את אימי שנות הגזירות וניצל. בשנת 1947, בהיותו בן 18, הגיע לארץ-ישראל והוא עלם עדין אשר רושם הפורענויות, שפקדו את יהדות ארץ מוצאו, נחרת עמוק בנפשו. עד להתגייסותו גר בתל-אביב ועם גיוסו שירת בחטיבת "אלכסנדרוני". בעת מבצע "חורב" נערך מבצע "חיסול" לחיסול "כיס פלוג'ה", שבו היתה נצורה חטיבה מצרית. ההתקפה נערכה על אגפו המזרחי של ה"כיס", באזור עיראק אל-מנשיה. כוחות "אלכסנדרוני" פרצו לכפר מדרום והשתלטו על חלקו, אך הסתערותם על התל שמצפון לכפר נהדפה. בינתיים התאוששו המצרים ותקפו נגד ואילצו את כוחותינו לסגת. חלק מהכוח נשאר לכוד בתוך הכפר. בקרב זה נפל, ביום כ"ו בכסלו תש"ט (28.12.1948) ונקבר בפלוג'ה. ביום י"ז בכסלו תש"י (8.12.1949) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בנחלת יצחק.
