Turai Avraham Virtzberg served in the Israel Defense Forces. Avraham served with the Infantry. Avraham served in the War of Independence. Avraham was 17 years old.

What Happened

בן נחמה וחיים-יעקב, נולד ביום ה' בחשוון תרצ"א (27.10.1930) בעיר בולקי ברזנה, צ'כוסלובקיה, ועלה ארצה ב-19.5.1947 דרך קפריסין. חודשיים לאחר בואו נתקבל למקווה ישראל אך עזב לאחר ארבעה חודשים כדי ללמוד מלאכה. בתקופת מלחמת-העצמאות התגייס לצבא ונשלח לגוש עציון. ב-12.5.1948 תקפו כוחות הלגיון את הגוש והצליחו לבתרו לשניים. למחרת נמשכה ההתקפה על כפר עציון והוא נפל בידי האויב. בקרב זה נפל, ביום ד' באייר תש"ח (13.5.1948). ביום כ"ה בחשוון תש"י (17.11.1949) הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית- הקברות הצבאי בהר-הרצל בירושלים. החלל הינו "נצר אחרון". חללי "נצר אחרון" הם ניצולי שואה שנותרו שריד אחרון ממשפחתם הגרעינית (הורים, אחים, אחיות, בנים ובנות), שחוו על בשרם את אֵימַת השואה בגטאות ו/או במחנות הריכוז וההשמדה ו/או במנוסה ובמסתור בשטחים שנכבשו ע"י הנאצים ו/או בלחימה לצד אנשי המחתרות או הפרטיזנים בשטחי הכיבוש הנאצי שעלו לארץ, בשנות מלחמת העולם השנייה או אחריה, לבשו מדים ונפלו במערכות ישראל.
