Sgan Aluf Efraim Inbal Markus served in the Israel Defense Forces. Efraim served with the Infantry. Efraim was 33 years old.
בן ישראל ושושנה. נולד ביום כ"ט בסיון תרפ"ט (7.7.1929) בירושלים. למד בבית-החינוך לילדי-העובדים שם ולאחר-מכן בבית-הספר המחוזי ביגור. משנתבגר התבלטו בו סגולות נאות, כגון עוז-נפש ותקיפות, ויחד עם זה גילה עדינות יוצא מגדר הרגיל. בן י"ז היה בשעה שנאסר על-ידי משטרת-המנדט ביום "השבת השחורה" (29.6.1946) יחד עם חברים אחרים במשק והושם בכלא ברפיח. השתתף במלחמת-הקוממיות כחבר בפלמ"ח ונפצע בכיבוש צפת. בצה"ל הגיע לדרגת סגן-אלוף. נאמן ושקט היה, חייל מסור ובעל-הכרה כמחנך. היה מפקד פלוגה בקורס-קצינים ונחשב לאחד מבחירי-המפקדים בחיל-הצנחנים. נטל חלק עם יחידתו בכמה מפעולות-התגמול ובאחת מהן נפצע בעינו. אך למרות פגיעה זו המשיך את שירותו בחיל קרבי זה. בתקופה האחרונה בחייו היה מפקד בית-הספר לצניחה. נפל בשעת מילוי תפקידו ביום ו' בתמוז תשכ"ג (27.6.1963), ובטקס צבאי מלא, בהשתתפות הרמטכ"ל, רב-אלוף צבי צור, הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בקרית-שאול. הניח אשה ותינוק. זכרו הועלה בספרו של אורי מילשטיין, "מלחמות הצנחנים".
