The man shot Officer Walker with a 20-gauge shotgun and then fled the scene. Officer Walker was transported to a local hospital where he died shortly after midnight. The man, who was on parole after serving 11 years for the 1973 killings of his adoptive parents, was sentenced to death and executed in 2000. In tribute

I served 1985 to 1993. You served too, before the badge - different uniform, same idea. You go where you are sent and you do not get to pick the call.

Police Officer Walker gave the Garland Police Department 22 years.

Thank you for your service to the Garland community, and for your service before it. Gone but never to be forgotten.

Rest easy, brother.

— S. Vincent Anthony, U.S. Army 1985-1993
