Ft. Hood Memorial, Killeen
The memorial to those killed at Fort Hood on 5 November 2009, beside the Killeen Civic and Event Center, dedicated on 11 March 2016 and built in Killeen so that the families, from across the country, would always have a place to stop. At its centre a black granite pyramid carries a 60-foot flagpole whose flag flies day and night; around its edge stand thirteen black granite columns for the fourteen killed, Private Velez's unborn child among them, each with its bronze. The FALLEN face names the thirteen; the WOUNDED face, the thirty-one wounded.
