Their life
Pilot Thomas P. Phelan, 45, of the Fire Department City of New York - Marine 9, died on March 16, 2018, from illness related to response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. While working as a ferry boat captain on September 11, 2001, he helped evacuate hundreds of people from Lower Manhattan. During the rescue and recovery efforts, he brought supplies and personnel to the World Trade Center site. He joined the FDNY in 2003, working first at a firehouse before being promoted to Marine 9 on Staten Island.
How they died
Marine Pilot of the Fire Department of the City of New York, who died of an illness from the rescue and recovery at the World Trade Center. The department added the name to its World Trade Center Memorial Wall at the ceremony of 06 September 2018. He died on 16 March 2018, aged 45.
