Paul J. Greco

Paul was appointed to the FDNY on August 19, 1990, and was assigned to Engine 47. He later went on to serve at Engine 275, Squad 18, and ultimately retired out of “The Squad” 270. A proud New Yorker, Paul was deeply committed to being the best firefighter he could be. Known to be an outstanding leader and teacher at the firehouse, Paul exemplified the courage and dedication that define the NYC firefighter. Over a career spanning more than two decades, he formed true bonds and lifelong friendships with many of the firefighters he worked alongside of. Paul was an avid runner who participated in the NYC Marathon. His favorite thing was spending time with his sons and organizing the tailgate parties at sporting events and concerts with friends. He was his son Anthony’s biggest hockey fan, traveling across the country to watch him play. In the aftermath of 9/11, Paul participated in the rescue and recovery operations at Ground Zero, from which he later suffered serious illness, ultimately passing on May 6, 2020. His resilience in the face of illness was deeply admired by his family and friends and was an enduring testament to the esteem in which he was held. His bravery will never be forgotten.
