Martin K. Farrell

Marty was born on November 12, 1971, one of nine children, to John and Dorothy Farrell. Since he was young, he dreamed of becoming a fireman. That dream was realized in 1996, but not before he apprenticed and became an Ironworker with Local 361, later transferring to Derrickmen Local 197. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2006. Marty and his wife, who was his best friend, embarked on a wonderful life together and were blessed with watching their children grow into adults. His daughter inherited his artistic talent, and his son joined the FDNY in 2019. Marty skydived once and was blown off course. He landed in a graveyard and took the hint. On 9/11, he responded to the rescue and recovery and survived the collapse of Tower 7. With his construction knowledge, he worked the “pit” for many months. He carried the sorrow of that day always. Upon his retirement in 2013, he made the best of it. For many years, he coached Pee Wee Football for the Brooklyn Hurricanes (Legionnaires) and in 2014 won the championship! Painting historical and fantasy figures, he often won awards. At the World Expo held in Chicago in 2017, he won two medals. Marty loved the beach and took his wife on numerous trips to the Bahamas. With a drink in his hand and his toes in the sand, he was content. Marty was the center of any room, including the one in his family’s and friends’ hearts.
