Larry L Strickland

Sergeant Major, United States Army - senior enlisted adviser to the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel since November 1990, with more than twenty-nine years' service. He was to retire at thirty.

He was born at Bellingham and spent three years at the University of Washington before enlisting in May 1972, and finished his degree through Regents College while serving.

He served in personnel administration throughout: the 228th Adjutant General Postal Company in Germany, the 9th Adjutant General Company at Fort Lewis, Military Personnel Center Europe, the Engineer Command Support Group in Washington, 1st Personnel Command in Germany, first sergeant of the 379th Personnel Service Company at Heidelberg, and the Sergeants Major Academy at Fort Bliss. He was sergeant major of the Engineer and Signal branches at Personnel Command, and sat on the 1989 noncommissioned officer leader development task force.

In his last post he advised on the plans, policies and programme changes that would fall on the enlisted force, served under six Deputy Chiefs of Staff, and was the link between that office and the Sergeant Major of the Army.

His wife, Command Sergeant Major Debra Strickland, was the garrison command sergeant major at Fort Belvoir.
