Kevin R. Kelly

Firefighter Kevin Robert Kelly joined the New York City Fire Department on September 5, 1981, proudly serving the people of New York for more than 27 years. Throughout his career, he was known for his courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his fellow firefighters and the communities he protected. On September 11, 2001, Kevin responded to the World Trade Center and entered the second tower as it collapsed. In the difficult months that followed, he continued his service during the rescue and recovery operations at Ground Zero. His time there, like so many of his brothers and sisters, came at a personal cost, as his health was impacted in the years that followed. In addition to his service on the fireground, Kevin was a respected leader within the department, serving as UFA company delegate for Engine 307 and later as Battalion 49 delegate. He was a strong advocate for the men and women of the FDNY, always willing to speak up and stand beside his fellow firefighters. Kevin is remembered not only as a firefighter but as a devoted family man. He shared his life with his beloved wife, Gail, and was a proud father to his daughter, Kristen, and son-in-law, Paul. His greatest joy came with the birth of his granddaughter, Kayleigh, on September 12, 2023, a precious moment he was unable to experience in person but one he celebrated in spirit. Kevin’s legacy is one of bravery, selflessness, and love—qualities that continue to inspire all who knew him. His service to the FDNY and his devotion to his family will never be forgotten.
