Their life
United States Ambassador to Libya. A career foreign service officer who had served twice in Libya before, spoke Arabic and French, and had come into Benghazi during the war of 2011 on a Greek cargo ship. He was in the compound when it was set alight and was not found by the Americans; Libyans pulled him alive from the building some hours later and carried him to a hospital, where he died of smoke inhalation. He was the first United States ambassador killed in the line of duty since 1979.
