Edward D. Thompson

Mr. Edward D. Thompson was born on July 23,1952, in Harlem, New York, to Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Ernestine Thompson. As the eldest of five siblings, Edward was a natural and gifted leader. He spent 32 years residing in Staten Island, New York, before relocating to Tampa, Florida, in 2003 with his beloved wife, Sandra Thompson. Due to his deep commitment to helping others, Edward joined the New York City

He bravely served the department, protecting life and property in the City of New York, in the rescue and recovery effort at Manhattan Box 5-5-8087, the World Trade Center. Edward continued his service even after retirement and returned to help following the World Trade Center disaster. He passed away on August 9, 2024. Mr. Edward D. Thompson shared 53 years of marriage with his loving wife, Sandra Thompson. They had four children, Tania, Edward, Ronisha, and Shauntae. They also have thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandkids, and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Among his many joys, one of Edward’s proudest moments was watching his grandson, Lawrence M. White, join the New York City Fire Department and receive Edward’s retired badge #12086. Edward is survived by his three brothers, Kevin, Stevie, and Darrell Thompson, and was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Denise Thompson. He cherished life to the fullest. He was passionate about golf and traveled the world competing in tournaments, often bringing home victories. Edward found great joy in traveling with his wife and grandchildren, enjoying cruises, loving music, ski trips, jet skiing, and visiting casinos. He also loved swimming in the pool and relaxing in his Jacuzzi.

Before his career as a firefighter, Edward worked as a skilled electrician and had a distinguished tenure with Con Edison in New York City. Edward had the uncanny ability to fix and put together anything in a flash. I can remember fondly when my dad assembled and put up our five ceiling fans all by himself in about an hour. He studied at the College of Staten Island and was passionate about life. A dedicated family man, an avid golfer, a talented cook, and a lover of the outdoors, Mr. Edward D. Thompson leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, and joyful living that will continue to inspire his friends and family.
