Information Systems Technician Chief, United States Navy - a veteran of the Gulf War, on special detail at the Pentagon. He was a week short of his forty-second birthday.
He went to William Fleming High School in Roanoke, where he played football, and had a scholarship to North Carolina A&T before he enlisted. His old coach said: I know the efforts Donald put into his academics and his athletics is the same effort he put into his life as a military man.
He was Atlantic Fleet Sailor of the Year, and qualified as both an enlisted surface warfare specialist and an enlisted aviation warfare specialist.
His family say he was quiet and compassionate, that he put the safety and wellbeing of others before his own, and that whenever his mother was ill he was there looking after her. He tinkered with his computer, watched films and played sport.
He was devoted to his wife Felicia for fourteen years; she bore his long absences at sea and understood why he went.
He is a direct descendant of the Hairstons.

His wife Felicia, his brother Edward, his sisters Addrene, Loretta, Alice, Valerie and Deborah, and his goddaughter Damiani.
