Canfield Demotte Boone

Colonel, United States Army, with thirty-one years of service. He came up through the ranks: he enlisted with the Indiana National Guard and served with the 38th Infantry Division, where he made staff sergeant, before taking a direct appointment as an adjutant general officer.

He held a range of personnel posts with the Indiana Guard - assistant postal officer, equal opportunity operations officer, battalion adjutant of the 738th Maintenance Battalion, and company commander of its Company B.

He began his Active Guard and Reserve career in 1986 as assistant professor of military science at Eastern Illinois University, and went on to a succession of personnel appointments at Arlington: staff officer and analyst in the Army National Guard personnel directorate, assignments officer at the personnel secretariat, chief of military personnel services, and National Guard advisor and mobilisation integrator at Personnel Command.

In August 1998 he was posted to the Army Pentagon as the Army National Guard personnel policy integrator in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel. He was there on the morning of the eleventh of September.

He took a degree at Butler and a master's in personnel management at Webster, and had been through the adjutant general basic and advanced courses and the Command and General Staff College. He was fifty-three.

His wife Linda, his mother Gail, his sons Chris, Andy and Jason, and his sisters Gaye Demotte and Joy Caplinger.
