badge.nw↗Captain Barry Galfano died from illnesses he contracted after inhaling toxic materials as he participated in the rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
Three weeks before 9/11, Captain Galfano was chosen to lead an Emergency Service Unit. He responded to the World Trade Center despite being on vacation and spent nine straight months at Ground Zero.
Captain Galfano had served with the New York City Police Department for 25 years.
