badge.nw↗Officer Alfonse Niedermeyer was killed in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks while attempting to rescue the victims trapped in the World Trade Center.
He was last seen rushing into the South Tower.
Officer Niedermeyer had served with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department for 17 years. In 1992, he received a citation for rescuing passengers from a US Airways jet that skidded off a runway at LaGuardia Airport. He was survived by his expectant wife and son. His daughter was born in May 2002.

Police Officer Niedermeyer gave the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department 17 years.
