George Robert Davis.
Deputy Bob Davis was shot and killed while he and another deputy were investigating a homicide on the Round Valley Indian Reservation in Covelo, California. During the investigation, they encountered one of the armed suspects and shot and killed him. As they were searching the area, another suspect shot and killed Deputy Davis. The subject eluded the police for four months until he turned himself into authorities. After a long trial, he was acquitted. Deputy Davis was a United States Navy Seal veteran and served with the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office for seven years.

I served 1985 to 1993. You served too, before the badge - different uniform, same idea. You go where you are sent and you do not get to pick the call.
Deputy Davis gave the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office 7 years.
Thank you for your service to the Ukiah community, and for your service before it. Gone but never to be forgotten.
Rest easy, brother.
— S. Vincent Anthony, U.S. Army 1985-1993
