Larry DeWayne Lee.
Vehicle pursuit
Officer Larry Lee was killed when a suspect's Chevy Blazer struck his patrol car as the suspect fled from another officer.
The suspect had been stopped on Mississippi Route 63 near the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge that crosses over the Escatawpa River. When the officer exited his patrol car, the suspect fled, crossing over the center divide and driving southbound in the northbound lanes on the bridge.
Officer Lee was responding to assist the other officer when his patrol car was struck head-on by the suspect's vehicle. Officer Lee was thrown 200 feet from his car and died at the scene.
The suspect exited his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by a responding officer and a civilian who witnessed the incident. The suspect was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Officer Lee had served with the Moss Point Police Department for six years and previously served for eight years with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

In tribute
I served 1985 to 1993. You served too, before the badge - different uniform, same idea. You go where you are sent and you do not get to pick the call.
Police Officer Lee gave the Moss Point Police Department 14 years.
Thank you for your service to the Moss Point community. Thank you for your service before it. Gone but never to be forgotten.
Rest easy, brother.
— S. Vincent Anthony, U.S. Army 1985-1993
