Leonard Burton Turner.
Deputy Turner responded to a disturbance call at a local dance hall. He arrested a suspect for public intoxication. The suspect resisted arrest and a struggle ensued. At one point, Deputy Turner had to use mace on the suspect. While transporting the prisoner to jail, the suspect tried to kick out the rear window of the patrol vehicle. Deputy Turner pulled the car over and called for backup. He was found slumped over the steering wheel. He had suffered a fatal heart attack and was pronounced dead at the scene. The prisoner was still in the back seat.

I served 1985 to 1993. You served too, before the badge - different uniform, same idea. You go where you are sent and you do not get to pick the call.
Deputy Sheriff Turner gave the Goliad County Sheriff's Department 18 years.
Thank you for your service to the Goliad community, and for your service before it. Gone but never to be forgotten.
Rest easy, brother.
— S. Vincent Anthony, U.S. Army 1985-1993
