Ray Allan Underwood served in the U.S. Air Force.
Officer Ray Underwood was killed when his patrol car was struck by a firetruck at the intersection of West Zang Boulevard and West Davis Avenue. He and his partner were responding to a fire alarm while patrolling a high-burglary area when the accident occurred. Two firefighters were killed, and his partner was critically injured. It was later determined that the fire alarm was a prank. Officer Underwood was a U.S. Air Force veteran and had served with the Dallas Police Department for four years.

I served 1985 to 1993. You served too, before the badge - different uniform, same idea. You go where you are sent and you do not get to pick the call.
Officer Underwood gave the Dallas Police Department 4 years.
Thank you for your service to the Dallas community, and for your service before it. Gone but never to be forgotten.
Rest easy, brother.
— S. Vincent Anthony, U.S. Army 1985-1993
