James Scotland.
Trooper James Scotland succumbed to injuries he received in a vehicle crash on February 14, 1935. Trooper Scotland and another trooper were traveling on Route 39 (current-day Route 206) near Rising Sun Road when a vehicle struck them head-on during heavy rain and fog. The troopers were transported to Mercer Hospital. The other trooper suffered a broken foot. Trooper Scotland died from his internal injuries four days later. He was a United States Coast Artillery WWI veteran and had served with the New Jersey State Police for almost four years.

I served 1985 to 1993. You served too, before the badge - different uniform, same idea. You go where you are sent and you do not get to pick the call.
Trooper Scotland gave the New Jersey State Police 3 years.
Thank you for your service to the people of New Jersey, and for your service before it. Gone but never to be forgotten.
Rest easy, brother.
— S. Vincent Anthony, U.S. Army 1985-1993
