Casto C. Robertson.
Deputy Sheriff Casto Robertson was shot and killed as he and other deputies attempted to serve a warrant at a home in Lincoln. The subject was wanted for the theft of several guns. He had been placed in custody and in the patrol car when his wife came out of the home and distracted the deputies. The man used the distraction as an opportunity to draw a .22 caliber handgun he had concealed on his person. He shot and critically wounded the other deputy and fatally shot Deputy Robertson. He then fled in his vehicle but was arrested after a high-speed pursuit. The man was convicted of Deputy Robertson's murder and died in prison serving a life sentence. Deputy Robertson was a military veteran and had served with the Washington County Sheriff's Office for four years.

I served 1985 to 1993. You served too, before the badge - different uniform, same idea. You go where you are sent and you do not get to pick the call.
Deputy Sheriff Robertson gave the Washington County Sheriff's Office 4 years.
Thank you for your service to the Fayetteville community, and for your service before it. Gone but never to be forgotten.
Rest easy, brother.
— S. Vincent Anthony, U.S. Army 1985-1993
