Patrick Allen Randel served in the U.S. Navy.
Narcotics Agent Patrick Randel was shot and killed during an undercover drug buy. He was attempting to purchase amphetamine pills when other officers lost contact with him. The other officers stopped the two suspects and then found Agent Randel shot to death in the front seat of his unmarked vehicle at a car park on Interstate 37 and Lloyd Bentsen Highway. One of the suspects was executed in 1985, and the second suspect had his sentence commuted to life. Agent Randel was a United States Navy veteran and had served with the Texas Department of Public Safety - Texas Highway Patrol for 12 years.

In tribute
I served 1985 to 1993. You served too, before the badge - different uniform, same idea. You go where you are sent and you do not get to pick the call.
Narcotics Agent Randel gave the Texas Department of Public Safety 12 years.
Thank you for your service to the people of Texas, and for your service before it. Gone but never to be forgotten.
Rest easy, brother.
— S. Vincent Anthony, U.S. Army 1985-1993
