Maurice M. Miller.
Deputy Maurice Miller was shot and killed when he attempted to serve a summons for non-support at a farmhouse on U.S. Highway 71 in Bossier Parish at 2:00 p.m. Other officers arrived on the scene, and the subject refused to release the body from the home and surrender, resulting in a stand-off. The suspect then shot and killed Chief Edward Huckabay of the Shreveport Police Department and injured another deputy when they attempted to retrieve the body of Deputy Miller at 4:30 p.m. A gunfight and a stand-off ensued until the suspect was shot and killed by other officers. I served 1985 to 1993. You served too, before the badge - different uniform, same idea. You go where you are sent and you do not get to pick the call.
Deputy Sheriff Miller gave the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office 10 years.
Thank you for your service to the Benton community, and for your service before it. Gone but never to be forgotten.
Rest easy, brother.
— S. Vincent Anthony, U.S. Army 1985-1993
