James McNamee served in the U.S. Army.
Officer McNamee was shot and killed after stopping a vehicle containing several robbery suspects near the intersection of Stafford Avenue and Washington Street. During the stop one of the suspects shot Officer McNamee in the back. The suspects fled but were all apprehended. The 19-year-old shooter was sentenced to life in prison. In 1948 state officials recommended to the parole board that his term be reduced. Officer McNamee was a U.S Army veteran of WWI and had served with the Bristol Police Department just under 10 years.

In tribute
I served 1985 to 1993. You served too, before the badge - different uniform, same idea. You go where you are sent and you do not get to pick the call.
Patrol Officer McNamee gave the Bristol Police Department 10 years.
Thank you for your service to the Bristol community, and for your service before it. Gone but never to be forgotten.
Rest easy, brother.
— S. Vincent Anthony, U.S. Army 1985-1993
