Robert A. Hutchinson served in the U.S. Army.
Patrolman Robert Hutchinson drowned after falling into the River Raisin at the Monroe Street dam. Patrolman Hutchinson had responded to a report of a child who had fallen into the river. After putting on his life jacket, Patrolman Hutchinson proceeded onto the dam. He lost his footing and fell into the river, where he was swept away. His body was recovered at the Macomb Street dam. Rescue workers were able to restart his heart, but he died seven hours later at a local hospital. I served 1985 to 1993. You served too, before the badge - different uniform, same idea. You go where you are sent and you do not get to pick the call.
Patrolman Hutchinson gave the Monroe Police Department 2 years.
Thank you for your service to the Monroe community, and for your service before it. Gone but never to be forgotten.
Rest easy, brother.
— S. Vincent Anthony, U.S. Army 1985-1993
