Marshal Teddy Holcomb was killed after he was struck by a car that was fleeing from other officers. Marshal Holcomb had set up a roadblock to help catch a motorist fleeing from other officers on Ohio 13. He was standing outside his car when the driver of the fleeing car struck him and then struck his car. Marshal Holcomb's wife was also injured. He was not working at the time, but a call for his assistance was given over the radio, which he had in his car. Marshal Holcomb went to assist with his personal vehicle since they were coming into his village. The driver pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, and resisting arrest. He was sentenced to three to ten years. Marshal Holcomb was a United States Army and Ohio National Guard veteran who had served with the Trimble Village Police Department for two years and previously served with the Nelsonville Police Department.

In tribute

I served 1985 to 1993. You served too, before the badge - different uniform, same idea. You go where you are sent and you do not get to pick the call.

Marshal Holcomb gave the Trimble Village Police Department 2 years.

Thank you for your service to the Trimble community, and for your service before it. Gone but never to be forgotten.

Rest easy, brother.

— S. Vincent Anthony, U.S. Army 1985-1993
