What Happened

James Clements, known as Moe, joined the Cowenton Volunteer Fire Company, now the White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company, Station 20, in Baltimore County on 14 October 1985 and served it for nearly 41 years as a firefighter and paramedic. A Life Member, he was the company's Top Responder in 2010, chaired the Baltimore County Volunteer Firefighters Association EMS Committee, sponsored the White Helmet for the company's new station, and was inducted into the Association's Hall of Fame in 2026. He died on 11 September 2026, days before his 79th birthday.

Biography

He began his career in social services and retired as chair of the Department of Safety, Security and Human Factors at the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies, where he continued to teach as an adjunct. He volunteered with the American Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Team and with Project Liberty Ship aboard the S.S. John W. Brown, and in 2010 received the Hometown Hero Award from the Chesapeake Gateway Chamber of Commerce and Johns Hopkins.
