Biography
Thomas Hampson is an American baritone, born June 28, 1955 in Elkhart, Indiana. Thomas Hampson grew up in Spokane, Washington. He studied with Marietta Coyle, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Martial Singher, and Horst Günther. He appears for the first time in an opera at the age of 19. In 1980 he joined the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf. The same year he received the second prize at the International Vocal Competition's-Hertogenbosch and in 1981 the first prize at the auditions of the Metropolitan Opera.
