The Neon Judgement

The Neon Judgement was a seminal Belgian duo from Leuven, widely credited (alongside Front 242) as the pioneers of Electronic Body Music (EBM). Formed in 1981, Dirk Da Davo and TB Frank blended low-fi industrial drones with mechanical rhythms and aggressive, often shouted vocals. Their early 1980s work, such as the club hits "TV Treated" and "The Fashion Party," captured a sense of Cold War anxiety and economic frustration that defined the underground European scene.

As they evolved, the band integrated more prominent guitar work into their electronic foundation, a "rock approach" that influenced later generations of techno and electroclash artists like Tiga and Dave Clarke. After a series of influential albums on the Play It Again Sam (PIAS) label and several hiatuses in the 90s, the band officially concluded their 35-year career in 2015 with a massive farewell concert at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels titled "Judgement Day."

Though officially retired, the duo performed a high-profile one-off reunion at W-Fest in 2020. In late 2024 and 2025, Dirk Da Davo has continued to keep the legacy alive through his Neon Electronics project, releasing a 45th-anniversary rework of their first single, "Factory Walk," and a solo EP titled Running Up The Hillside.
