National Orchestra of French Broadcasting (1934) ORTF National Orchestra (1964) National Orchestra of France (1974) The Orchester national de France is, together with the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, the Radio France Choir and the Radio France Master, one of the four permanent formations of Radio France. He is in residence in the auditorium of the Maison de la Radio in Paris since November 2014. On January 18, 1934, under the leadership of Postmaster General Jean Mistler, French Radio created its first permanent symphony orchestra under the name of the National Orchestra of French Broadcasting. The orchestra was later renamed the ORTF National Orchestra to the establishment of the public institution in 1964 and the National Orchestra of France in 1974. Désiré-Émile Inghelbrecht, first titular conductor, is going to found the musical tradition of the orchestra, which gives a large place to French music. After the war, Manuel Rosenthal, André Cluytens, Roger Désormière, Charles Munch, Maurice Le Roux and Jean Martinon continue this tradition. Sergiu Celibidache, first guest conductor from 1973 to 1975, succeeds Lorin Maazel who will become the musical director of the Orchestra. From 1989 to 1998, Jeffrey Tate held the position of first guest conductor, from 1991 to 2001 Charles Dutoit that of musical director. Beginning in September 2002, Kurt Masur was the musical director of the Orchestra for six seasons before becoming the Honorary Music Director in September 2008, when Daniele Gatti was appointed to succeed.
