Dominique Vellard
Since 1979, Dominique Vellard , born in 1953 , has inspired and led the destinies of the Ensemble Gilles Binchois, more than 30 years of research and concerts which have generated the creation of some of the essential recordings in the field of the medieval music and the beginnings of the Renaissance . The passion of Dominique Vellard for music ranging from Gregorian chant to the xvii th century developed from childhood in the Masters of Our Lady of Versailles . For fifteen years, he has developed a great interest in other repertoires thanks to the meeting of musicians of Indian tradition, such as Moroccan, Iranian, Spanish or Breton. As composer he draws on his experience and his interest in monodies and polyphonies of the West as well as more distant traditions. He has been a professor at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis since 1982 and has been artistic director of the “Rencontres Internationales de Musique Médiévale du Thoronet” 4 since their creation in 1991. Dominique Vellard has more than 50 recordings to his credit, including forty at the head of the Ensemble Gilles Binchois .
