Biography

"David Newman" The son of famed Golden Age composer Alfred Newman, brother to Thomas Newman and cousin to Randy Newman. Began his Hollywood career as a studio musician and conductor, wielding the baton on James Horner's Battle Beyond the Stars in 1980. Newman's first feature score was Tim Burton's 1984 featurette Frankenweenie, which Newman co-wrote with Michael Convertino. More studio projects followed, including The Brave Little Toaster (1987), The Flintstones (1994), The Phantom (1996), Galaxy Quest (1999), Ice Age (2002) and Serenity (2005). Newman maintains a working relationship with actor/director Danny DeVito, scoring many of DeVito's films starting with Throw Momma From the Train (1987) and continuing through Death to Smoochy (2002) and the upcoming I Married A Witch. While less well-known than his brother and cousin, David Newman is one of Hollywood's most prolific composers, with over 80 scores to his credit.
