Biography
Jazz Messengers is a jazz band created in 1953 by Art Blakey and Horace Silver. If he left in 1956, Blakey remained the leader and mentor, so his name and career are closely associated. Active for more than thirty years, this group is the forerunner of hard bop and was characteristic of this current as much by its style as by its composition, a jazz critic will even say that it is the "definition of hard bop". He was also spurred by Blakey a great springboard for many young talents who became major artists of jazz.
