Amenra
Amenra is a Belgian post-metal collective from Kortrijk, formed in 1999 by vocalist Colin H. van Eeckhout and guitarist Mathieu Vandekerckhove. Their music combines doom, sludge, hardcore, and post-rock into deeply emotional compositions that feel like rituals. Their first six studio albums are part of the Mass series—spiritual, cathartic works rooted in grief and introspection. The 2021 album De Doorn began a new chapter with lyrics in Flemish and a sparser, more intimate sound that still carries explosive weight.
In March 2025, Amenra released two companion EPs—De Toorn and With Fang and Claw—on Relapse Records. De Toorn extends the thematic journey of De Doorn, opening with the haunting 26-minute track “Heden,” building from quiet introspection to crushing doom riffs. With Fang and Claw reunites the primal ferocity of their early sound, showing that even in brevity their music feels monumental. Their live shows are legendary: immersive, cathartic experiences where Colin has been known to hang stones from his body with meat hooks, forging an intense ritual of performance and presence.
